ISLANDWIDE
Political primaries. Nearly two dozen primaries will be held Tuesday to choose party candidates for town and county offices. They include four Republican races for Nassau legislative districts and the Democratic nomination for Riverhead Town supervisor. See staff updates at newsday.com.

PATCHOGUE
Theater demolition. The demolition of the decrepit Plaza Theatre in East Patchogue will take place at 2:30 p.m. Brookhaven Town plans to sell the property for development. Check Sophia Chang’s Twitter feeds @schangnewsday.

SMITHTOWN
Busing hearing. The board of education of the Smithtown school district meets Tuesday night at the Joseph Barton Building, 26 New York Ave. A public hearing begins at 7:30 p.m. on a busing referendum to be put before voters Monday to reverse a proposition passed in May that raised minimum distances students must live from schools to qualify for busing.
