The Hempstead Town Board on Tuesday approved two bids to begin work on streetscape improvements on a stretch of Gardiners Avenue in Levittown and on a portion of the intersection of Woodfield Road and Bee Gee Court in Lakeview.
The improvements will include the installation of brick-paved walkways, Victorian streetlights, attractive benches and stylized trash receptacles, town officials said.
“Enhancing our downtowns is a positive undertaking for both the neighboring businesses and residents,” Supervisor Kate Murray said. “These enhancements help beautify our neighborhoods and support local home values.”
Enhancements will be made on the west side of Gardiners Avenue at the intersection of Jeffries Road, running north to the entrance of a municipal parking lot near Amber Lane, located within the business district of Levittown. The project was awarded to Condos Brothers Construction Corp., based in Bay Shore, which was the lowest bidder at $250,000. Construction is expected to begin in late April, town officials said.
Upgrades were recently completed nearby on Gardiners Avenue in front of the Gardiners Plaza Shopping Center near White Lane, running south to the front of the Levittown Post Office.
Streetscape improvements also will be made on the east side of Woodfield Road, in front of a cluster of businesses near the intersection of Bee Gee Court. The bid was awarded to H&A Landscape of Long Island Inc., based in Hicksville, which was the lowest bidder at $85,000. Construction is expected to begin in late April, town officials said.
