Swim benefits brain aneurysm treatment

A brain aneurysm survivor from Bayville has organized a fundraiser for North Shore University Hospital and the Long Island Volunteer Center.

The event, A Swim for Brain Aneurysm Awareness, is scheduled for noon, Saturday,  Aug. 13, at the Oyster Bay Cove Beach. Registration for the one-mile swim is $25. Donations also may  be mailed to Long Island Volunteer Center, 24 Adams Ave., Bayville, NY 11709.

The event was created five years ago by Joan Imhof, shortly after she was treated at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset for a ruptured brain aneurysm. Her efforts raising awareness of the condition have continued each year since, with proceeds from the swim benefiting the hospital’s Brain Aneurysm Center.
