Don’t put away those shorts and flip-flops just yet.
Temperatures on Long Island are expected to hit the 80s this weekend.
The National Weather Service predicts Saturday’s high to hit 75 degrees in the afternoon, with temperatures dropping to just below 60 at night.
Sunday’s forecast predicts a high of 82 degrees with lots of sunshine.
If the forecast holds true, records will be broken. According to the National Weather Service, the record high temperature for Oct. 9 at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip is 78 degrees, set in 1990. The normal high temperature for this time of the year is 66 degrees.
And for those LIers off for the Columbus Day holiday on Monday, temperatures are expected hit 79 degrees -- and it’s going to be sunny.
Later in the week, the forecast is for temperatures to begin to drop to the low 70s with clouds and possible showers. So enjoy the Indian summer while it lasts.
