Town of Islip seeks volunteers to work with youth

The Town of Islip is seeking volunteers for  many of its youth services programs.

South Shore Community Organization, one of the Town of Islip Youth Bureau’s contract agencies, needs community members of all ages to provide homework assistance, tutoring for students and to participate in other activities, such as art and cultural programs, volunteer service activities, youth leadership programming, after-school and summer programs and recreational activities.

Volunteers will be placed based on their age, experience and previous training. Teachers, student teachers and retired teachers are specifically sought for tutoring.

Volunteers are needed at sites serving the school districts of Islip, East Islip, Connetquot, Sayville and the Islip portions of Bayport-Blue Point, Sachem and Hauppauge.

Community involvement is a key component to expanding the town’s youth services, according to a press release.
