The Long Island Rail Road has updated its official mobile application, which now allows customers to count down the seconds until the time their train arrives.

The updated TrainTime app features countdown clocks next to every listed arrival. An LIRR spokesman said the application gathers train data, including through GPS, to give customers an accurate arrival time.

Other changes include "an easier to use" station picker screen, enhanced trip search capability and detailed station parking information.

A new server also allows the application to handle more than 2,000 requests per minute. The upgrade is aimed at meeting increased demands during service interruptions, the LIRR said.

The LIRR said the improvements were developed using customer feedback the agency has received since the app was released in December. More than 170,000 customers have downloaded it so far, according to the LIRR.
