A financial “godsend” has changed the fate of East Hampton Pharmacy, which owner Frank Calvo recently announced he would close.
Calvo told the “East Hampton Press” Thursday that he would be forced to close his East Hampton and Bridgehampton pharmacies because of the economic downturn and the loss of his line of credit.
But on Friday morning, Calvo said a few generous community members had stepped in to help, offering enough donations to keep the East Hampton location in business a little longer.
“Hopefully, we can work it out from there,” he said. While the pharmacy remains open, Calvo is still waiting for some of the pledges of help to become official.
Calvo opened the East Hampton Pharmacy, on North Main Street, in 2002, and expanded to Bridgehampton Pharmacy, on Main Street, in 2008. Calvo said he will still shutter the doors of Bridgehampton Pharmacy on Friday.
