Volunteers needed for Oyster Bay Harbor cleanup

The Town of Oyster Bay, Friends of the Bay and the Oyster Bay Power Squadron will sponsor the annual Oyster Bay Harbor Fall Cleanup Day on Sept. 17.

Volunteers and town employees will clean the shoreline on foot and from boats from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Those interested in volunteering should call 516-677-5711 or sign up the day of the event. Volunteers will meet at the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park launching ramps on Larrabee Avenue in Oyster Bay.

The cleanup is part of The Ocean Conservancy’s 26th annual International Coastal Cleanup campaign. In the past 25 years, nearly 9 million volunteers have cleaned 145 million pounds of trash from the shores of lakes, streams, rivers and the ocean on one day a year, according to the conservancy.
