Dix Hills’ Vincent Nobile uses a 1,400-hp. NHRA Pro Stock dragster to get up to speed.

But just this once, he’s asking fellow Long Islanders to propel him to victory.

Nobile, a 19-year-old rookie, hopes to compete in the K&N Horsepower Challenge, an exhibition event taking place during the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, June 23-26, in Norwalk, Ohio.

Eight drivers will compete in the challenge, seven based on their qualifying-round speeds during the NHRA Full Throttle schedule and one via a fan vote.

Nobile is having a fine year, as he's tied for fourth in Pro Stock points out of 32 drivers who have competed. But because the point system for the challenge includes results from last year, the only way Nobile can get in is via the fan vote.

“It would definitely put me in a spot to win the deal,” Nobile said. “And it’s $50,000 to win this special race, so it would mean a lot.”

Voting ends at 6 p.m. Friday. You can vote for Nobile here.
