WALK Radio broadcast to help food bank

A local radio station will hold a 14-hour live broadcast at a Farmingdale grocery store Friday to raise money for hunger.

WALK Radio 97.5 FM will set up shop at the Super Stop & Shop on Motor Avenue beginning at 5 a.m. as part of Hauppauge food bank Long Island Cares’ Legacy Week, which commemorates the 30th anniversary of the death of the food bank’s founder, musician Harry Chapin.

Chapin, who lived in Huntington Bay, died July 16, 1981 in a crash near Exit 40 of the Long Island Expressway.

During Legacy Week, which continues through July 18, Long Island Cares aims to raise $50,000 in monetary and food donations — an amount that will be matched by the Ronkonkoma-based NBTY Helping Hands Charity, a nonprofit founded by NBTY, the nutritional supplements company.
