State officials will hold a public meeting Wednesday night to discuss proposed clean-up plans for the Techem Inc. hazardous waste site in New Hyde Park.
The facility at 1840 Falmouth Ave. manufactured acid-based chromium, cadmium, cyanide, nickel and zinc from 1973 to 1994.
In a news release, the state Department of Environmental Conservation and the state Department of Health said the soil posing the greatest risk for exposure had been removed and the site no longer poses a significant threat to public health.
The proposal calls for annual site inspections as well as deed restrictions on the property to minimize chances of human exposure to soil and groundwater.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Hillside Public Library, 155 Lakeville Rd. in New Hyde Park. Written comments on the plans will be accepted through March 29.
Public comments can be sent to Cynthia Whitfield, DEC Division of Environmental Remediation, 635 Broadway, 11th floor, Albany, NY 12233-7015; by email email@example.com; by calling (518) 402-9622.
