The Town of Islip’s Winter by the Bay Festival reopened Tuesday, after being closed Monday because of the snowstorm, and will continue to provide free winter activities for families on Wednesday and during the weekend.
At the Ronkonkoma Recreation Center, which has a sprawling view of the lake, the event offers sled rides, ice skating, craft activities, snowman making, and horse-and-buggy rides. There is also a fireside lounge indoors, where refreshments are sold.
There are a limited number of ice skates and sleds available for loan, or residents can bring their own, Parks Commissioner Greg Dawson said. The event is open from noon until 8 p.m. each day; on Sunday there will also be a live band.
