Wyandanch is hosting its fifth annual National Night Out designed to help build bonds between the community and law enforcement.
The event is scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wyandanch Park on Mount Avenue.
Hosted by Babylon Town Supervisor Steve Bellone, Rep. Steve Israel (D-Dix Hills) and Legis. DuWayne Gregory (D-Amityville), the event is intended to heighten awareness of crime in the community and allow for positive interaction between residents and law enforcement, said Sondra Cochran, executive director of the Wyandanch Community Development Corp.
On hand will be members of the Suffolk County Police and Sheriff’s departments, she said, as well as the Wyandanch Volunteer Fire Company, the Wyandanch Community Resource Center and Wyandanch Weed and Seed program.
The night out will feature free food, a DJ, face painting, games and prizes, as well as a tug of war between police officers and kids, Cochran said.
