A school minibus driver struck a colleague as he pulled into the company lot in East Northport Tuesday morning, Suffolk police said.

Robert Heartland, 61, of Huntington Station, was turning into the driveway of Baumann and Sons Buses on Railroad Avenue when he struck co-worker Joanne Fuller-Astarita, who was walking, police said. It happened about 10:15 a.m., police said.

Fuller-Astarita, 57, of East Northport, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

A manager at the bus company declined to comment, except to say it was an accident.

The minibus was inspected at the scene by the motor carrier safety section, police said, and Second Precinct detectives are investigating.

Police said other details were not available Tuesday evening.
