Long Island Rail Road service was temporarily suspended Thursday night on part of the Montauk Branch due to a car on the tracks, a Metropolitan Transportation Authority official said.
The disruption began about 7 p.m., delaying one westbound and two eastbound trains as service was suspended east of the Babylon station, according to MTA spokeswoman Nancy Gamerman.
The West Islip Fire Department responded to the scene near Pat Drive in West Islip and removed the car at around 7:20 p.m., according to department Chief Robert Bilella.
“The driver had a medical issue and just lost control of the car,” Bilella said.
The driver was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip and treated for a minor injury, Bilella said.
The disruption may have caused residual delays on the Montauk Branch, Gamerman said.
