The eastbound Long Island Expressway at Route 110 was closed for several hours Tuesday afternoon, reopening in time for the evening commute, officials said.

A fuel spill from a disabled tractor trailer had forced the closure of the eastbound lanes in Melville for more than three hours, officials said.

Suffolk County police said the incident occurred at 12:06 p.m.

The state Department of Transportation’s website, informny.com, said the lanes reopened shortly before 3:30 p.m.
