LIRR: Buses to replace trains midday on part of Montauk line

Buses will replace weekday trains on the Montauk branch between Montauk and Speonk during the midday hours for the next two months, starting Tuesday, the Long Island Rail Road said.

The railroad said the service change is necessary for grade crossing modernization and other work, which should be finished by Nov. 10.

Westbound trains that usually depart Montauk at 11:18 a.m. and 2:51 p.m. will originate in Speonk. Customers at Montauk through Westhampton will board buses to Speonk, then connect with train service to points west, the railroad said.

Buses will depart up to 32 minutes earlier than normal train time.

For eastbound riders, the 8:57 a.m. train from Babylon and the 11:25 a.m. train from Jamaica will terminate in Speonk, the railroad said. Riders will transfer to buses for stops at Westhampton through Montauk.

The railroad said riders should plan for up to 28 minutes of additional travel time.

On Columbus Day, Oct. 9, there will be normal midday train service on the Montauk branch, the railroad said.
