LIRR: Person hit by train leads to service suspension between Hicksville, Jamaica

The Long Island Rail Road suspended service late Tuesday between Jamaica and Hicksville after a person was struck by a train in Mineola, officials said.

In a tweet about 11 p.m., the LIRR described the person as a "trespasser," and said the incident forced suspension of service in both directions on the Huntington/Port Jefferson, Oyster Bay and Ronkonkoma branches.

Information about the victim's condition was not immediately available.

The LIRR, in a second tweet, warned stranded riders that "it can take up to 2 hours for service to be restored. Customers are advised to utilize alternate branches at this time. We will keep you updated."
