Disabled LIRR train delays several branches during rush hour

Some Long Island Rail Road trains are returning to schedule after a disabled train in Mineola led to delays during the rush hour commute.

An LIRR spokesman said it was unclear what caused the equipment issue that stopped the train, but the congestion resulted in delays of up to 20 minutes on the Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma lines, according to the MTA’s website.

Both eastbound and westbound trains were reporting delays.

LIRR officials stopped the disabled train at Mineola at about 6:45 p.m. and transferred the passengers to another train. The disabled train was cleared from the station about an hour later, but residual delays continued through about 8:30 p.m., the spokesman said.
