Long Island Rail Road service was on or close to schedule Monday midafternoon, after being suspended on the Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches when “an unauthorized person on the tracks” was struck by a train, the LIRR said.
The person, a male thought to be in his early 30s, stepped in front of the train and was killed, said LIRR spokesman Salvatore Arena.
He was struck about 1 p.m. west of the Hicksville station by the eastbound train that left Penn Station at 12:22 p.m., due in Ronkonkoma at 1:43 p.m., Arena said.
As of late afternoon both branches were reporting good service on http://www.mta.info/lirr.
Further details were not immediately available.
