Night construction work will close two of three westbound lanes on Sunrise Highway in North Lindenhurst beginning Monday, state Department of Transportation officials have announced.
The closures will be in effect between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday through Friday for about a week while beams for the new Wellwood Avenue Bridge are installed.
The work is part of a $20.4 million project to demolish and reconstruct a bridge over Sunrise Highway at Wellwood Avenue.
“This design-build project will improve safety for pedestrians, bicyclists and the approximately 90,000 motorists who travel over and under this bridge each day,” DOT officials said in a statement.
In addition to the lane closures, there will be intermittent full stoppages to all westbound Sunrise Highway traffic while the beams are erected.
All Wellwood Avenue entrance and exit ramps will remain open, transportation officials said.
Electronic road signs will be in use to warn travelers, but motorists are also advised to plan alternate routes to avoid delays.
