Veterans services organizations can now apply for the grant money Suffolk County officials raised through the Suffolk County Marathon and Half-Marathon in September.
County legislature officials said more than 3,500 runners, who hailed from 25 different states and four countries, raised $160,000.
The marathon was part of the Suffolk County Veterans Running Series, a lineup of six 2015 races that sought to honor veterans and those who work to serve their needs.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced before the Suffolk County Marathon and Half-Marathon that all net proceeds from the races would go toward veterans causes.
Registered 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(19) organizations that offer services for veterans and active military and military families and are in good standing with the Suffolk County Veterans’ Services Agency are eligible to apply. Applicants can ask for between $2,500 and $80,000.
Applications for the first round of consideration and details on the application timeline are available online at www.suffolkcountyny.gov, www.suffolkcountyny.gov/veterans/home and www.suffolkmarathon.com.
According to the marathon website, 15 paper copies of the application and any attachments are due to the county veterans department for review by the Suffolk Veterans Marathon Grant Advisory Committee by Jan. 29 at 4:30 p.m.
