Wanted: Bank robbery; fatal hit-and-run

Nassau County's Police Robbery Squad and its Crime Stoppers department are looking for a man wanted in connection with a Franklin Square bank robbery.

Police say that at 2:25 p.m. on Dec. 23, a suspect entered the TD Bank at 690 Hempstead Tpke., approached a teller with a note, then verbally demanded money. He took the money and fled on foot. He is described as being 20-25 years old, about five-foot-nine and was wearing a black jacket with black hood.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at its toll-free and confidential hotline: 800-244-TIPS (8477). Refer to Crime Stoppers Unit Case No. 11-13. Crime Stoppers offers up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.


Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and the Sixth Squad detectives are looking for the driver of the vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run in Centereach.

Police say that at 12:45 a.m. on Dec. 21, Michael Van Hulse, 29, was walking eastbound on Park Street, west of Rustic Road, when a vehicle struck him, knocking him to the ground. Van Hulse suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop and did not report this incident. Police believe the vehicle was metallic red and may have sustained damage to its windshield and the black plastic panels on its undercarriage.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000.00 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS (8477). All calls will be kept confidential.
