Wanted: Child stalker; restaurant burglary

Nassau police and its Crime Stoppers department are looking for a man wanted for suspicion of endangering the welfare of a child in a Hempstead incident.

Police said that at about 4:20 p.m. on July 18, a child was walking on Thorne Avenue when a man pulled his vehicle to the curb and waved for the child to get in.

Police said that the child ran toward home and the van followed until the child ducked into someone's back yard. The driver continued on along Leverich Street.

The vehicle was described as a purple minivan, possibly a Dodge Caravan, with scratches on the driver's side. It had tinted windows and a yellow and black license plate.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at its toll-free and confidential hotline: 800-244-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers offers up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.

Suffolk police and its Crime Stoppers department are looking for at least one suspect in the burglary of a Centerport restaurant.

Police said around midnight on July 17, at least one person was seen on surveillance video prying open a rear window of the Mill Pond House at 437 E. Main St., entering the building and stealing $1,800 in cash.
