WANTED: Robbery attempt; stolen check cashed

Nassau police and its Crime Stoppers are looking for two men wanted in connection with an armed robbery at a North Woodmere gas station.

Police say that about 6 p.m. on Sept. 6, the two young men walked into the Shell gas station at 928 Rosedale Rd., showed a black handgun, and attempted to steal the cash register, but were unsuccessful.

The first suspect is described as 5 feet, 6 inches tall, about 17 to 19 years old, wearing a black T-shirt, dark baseball cap, sunglasses, dark pants and a white-colored piece of fabric around his neck.

The second suspect was about 5 feet, 5 inches tall, with an average build, short hair, wearing a gray sweatshirt, white T-shirt and sunglasses. No age estimate was given for the second suspect.

Suffolk police and its Crime Stoppers are looking for a male suspect they say might have cashed a check stolen from a Miller Place business.

Between Aug. 9 and Sept. 11, someone removed a check from the checkbook at Ging's Nursery on Route 25A. Police said that on Sept. 11, 2010, the man pictured on surveillance video cashed the stolen check at the HSBC Bank in Port Jefferson.
