Sabrina Remusat, a fifth-grader at Northside Elementary School in Farmingdale, is one of 12 girls nationwide to be featured in Discovery Girlsmagazine this school year based on her efforts as a role model.
Remusat currently appears in the magazine's April/May 2011 issue after submitting an application last year that asked kids to outline their aspirations and extracurricular activities.
"When I heard I was selected, I started screaming because I was so happy," said Sabrina, 10. "I hope to inspire young girls to follow in my footsteps and be what they want to be."
Remusat's involvements include participating in her school's peer-mentoring program by playing games and interacting with special-needs students every other week. She is also a member of Northside's Nutrition and Wellness Advisory Council and offers feedback to administrators and teachers on the school's lunch choices.
Outside of school, she has been in the Girl Scouts for six years and participated in community service projects ranging from litter cleanups to a talent show for senior citizens at Farmingdale Adult Day Care Center.
In addition, she acts with the Cultural Arts Playhouse in Plainview and aspires to be an actor, author and veterinarian.
