A 62-year-old Newburgh medical office worker stole $50,000 from the medical practice during the past year, State Police said.

Margaret Vredenburgh of Newburgh was charged Tuesday by State Police with second-degree grand larceny, a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison with a conviction.

State Police did not identify the business for which Vredenburgh worked. The missing money was reported to State Police investigators by the medical office Sept. 22.

Vredenburgh was arraigned in Town of Newburgh Court and released on her own recognizance by Justice Richard Clarino.

The case has been referred to the Orange County Criminal Court for further action, State Police said.
