According to police, 48-year-old Michael Elardo turned himself in yesterday.

LEVITTOWN - A retired NYPD officer accused in a hit-and-run that killed a teen girl in Levittown was indicted by a grand jury Friday.

The charges against Michael Elardo will not be announced until the indictment is unsealed.

Elardo is charged in the hit-and-run death of Bryanna Soplin, 13, on Hempstead Turnpike early Sunday morning. Soplin had Down syndrome and her mother believes she left home to visit her grandparents in Hicksville.
 
Elardo, of Syosset, is currently being held on $900,000 bail.
