Mount Vernon officials say the city would save $800,000 if it closes the firehouse on Oak Street. The firefighters union argues it will ultimately lead to layoffs in a department that already is understaffed.

Mayor Ernie Davis told News12 Westchester that the last thing he wants to do is shut down the firehouse, but he added, "We are at a point where we have to figure out how to share this burden."
