Movie buzz: Efron gets 'Lucky,' 'Crow' flies again

WHO Zac Efron

THE MOVIE "The Lucky One"

THE DEAL The star of Disney's "High School Musical" franchise seems to be graduating to more serious films. In "Charlie St. Cloud," scheduled for release tomorrow, Efron plays a young man whose bright future is derailed by a tragic accident; it's based on a novel by Ben Sherwood. According to Variety, Efron is now in negotiations for "The Lucky One," an adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' novel about a Marine searching for the mysterious woman who may have helped him survive Iraq.

WHO Nick Cave

THE MOVIE "The Crow"

THE DEAL The Australian punk icon, crooner and sometime novelist has been tapped as the screenwriter for this reboot of the 1994 Brandon Lee action film, according to TheWrap.com. Though Cave, 52, may seem an odd choice, he wrote the critically acclaimed 2005 Western "The Proposition" and was named one of Variety's 10 Screenwriters to Watch in 2006.

THE MOVIE "The World According to Monsanto"

THE DEAL This documentary focuses on the massive agriculture and biotechnology corporation, tracing its influence on the world's food supply and overall economy. Steve Storch, a biodynamic agriculture expert who runs Natural Science Organics in Water Mill, will speak at a screening.

INFO Thursday night at 7:30 at Cinema Arts Centre, 423 Park Ave., Huntington. Tickets are $13. 800-838-3006; cinemaartscentre.org.
