JERSEY CITY - Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop told News 12 New Jersey this morning that a threat to kill more of the city’s police officers that was circulated on social media is unsubstantiated.

“Unsubstantiated threats come in after any police shooting, anywhere in the country, that’s just the way it works unfortunately,” said Mayor Fulop. “99.9 percent of the time it’s not credible, but we have to take everyone seriously.”

The mayor also added that a police officer posted the threat information to Facebook, which then was quickly circulated on social media. Fulop said the officer was unauthorized to release the information and is facing disciplinary action.

The threat claimed that Bloods street gang members were going to kill more police officers after a man was shot dead by police after authorities say he murdered a Jersey City police officer.
