Police said Finley had been driving a 2000 Ford Focus south on Brookville Boulevard near Kennedy Airport when the car left the road, and overturned into the water.

One of her passengers, Dominique Jamison, 25, of Beach Channel Drive in Far Rockaway, was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, but was pronounced dead.

The Associated Press reported that the car flipped over into 3 or 4 feet of swamp off Jamaica Bay near Brookville and Rockaway boulevards. The driver and two other passengers suffered minor injuries.

Six firefighters also were injured at the scene during the rescue attempt, according to the AP.
