Love having farm fresh produce but have a green thumb that’s more like a black thumb? Then joining a CSA might be the best choice for you.

There are many farms across Long Island that participate in community supported agriculture (CSA) -- the trick is knowing where they are and the deadlines that you have to purchase your “shares” by.

Listed below are some of the Long Island farms with CSA programs along with their registration deadlines (and even info on waiting lists!):

Restoration Farm: Old Bethpage
Shares sold out for 2013. No periods of open enrollment, it is only through a waiting list, where the average wait is about 2 years.

Amber Waves Farm: Amagansett
The CSA form and agreement should be filled out and returned with a deposit check of $100 by April 15th. The full payment is due on May 15th.

Golden Earthworm Organic Farm: Jamesport
No concrete deadline. More as a rolling admission or subscription. Best time is now since in the next couple of weeks, spots will fill up fast.

Biophilia Organic Farm: Jamesport
Final payments are due June 1st.
