The Huntington Town maintenance worker injured Thursday afternoon when heavy machinery from the back of a truck fell on top of him "is doing better," a town spokesman said Friday.
The town has been in touch with the family of Douglas Hay, 54, of Ronkonkoma, according to town spokesman A.J. Carter. Hay had "no broken bones but both lungs are punctured," Carter said.
Hay was unloading a commercial painting machine from a truck at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday to use in marking athletic fields at Caledonia Park when he slipped to the ground and the machine fell on top of him, police said.
Carter said Hay has worked for the town in the general service department for 35 years and is a "well-liked, valued and respected" employee.
