New York City

Subways and buses stopped running Saturday afternoon. It's unclear when New York City's public transportation system would be up and running again.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said, “It all depends on how much damage is done to the system.” He said for the subways, it will be a process of pumping water out of the tunnels, then pumping clean water into the tunnels, and then drying them out. Bloomberg said people should count on there not being any public transportation for the Monday morning commute. MTA spokesman Sam Zambuto said to expect restoration of the system to be a “lengthy process that will impact service following the storm.”
