The Islanders announced yesterday that fans who were unable to attend Saturday's home game against Montreal because of the blizzard can redeem tickets for another home game.

The first major storm this winter prevented many Islanders fans from making the trek to the Coliseum for the 7 p.m. start.

Fans can redeem their tickets at the Coliseum box office for one of the following games: Dec. 27 vs. the Flyers; Dec. 29 vs. the Blue Jackets; Jan. 2 vs. the Thrashers; Jan. 21 vs. the Panthers and Jan. 26 vs. the Capitals.

Because the storm also caused the cancellation of a practice open to season ticket holders on Sunday, there will be a practice open to the public on Jan. 4 at IceWorks in Syosset. This practice is in addition to the previously scheduled Jan. 17 public practice at the Nassau Coliseum.

 Scary moment

Midway through the second period of last night's 3-1 victory over the Maple Leafs, the Isles' Nate Thompson took a skate to the face from Toronto defenseman and Islip Terrace native Mike Komisarek. The two became tangled in a collision near the boards and as Komisarek fell to the ice, his left leg went into the air and into Thompson's face.

The Isles center skated off the ice and walked toward the locker room, but returned to action later in the second period.

 DiPietro update

Isles coach Scott Gordon reiterated that he won't push Rick DiPietro's return. Said Gordon, "We're not going to put a mark on the calendar and say 'this is the date.' We've been real patient up to this point and we're not going to change that."
