Man, 88, may have had health emergency in fatal crash

An elderly Deer Park man who may have first suffered a health emergency died Monday after a three-car accident in Deer Park, police said.

Don Underwood, 88, of Deer Park, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Underwood was driving north on Route 231 at 9:48 a.m., police said, when his 2007 Toyota crossed into the south lane near Lake Avenue and struck a 2000 Cadillac and then a parked 1999 Plymouth.

The driver of the Cadillac and her passenger were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of their injuries. Their conditions were not immediately available.
