Mount Vernon boy, 12, recovering after elevator shaft fall

NEWS 12 WESTCHESTER: The incident happened at around 12:45 p.m. Sunday. (Dec. 9, 2012)

A 12-year-old Mount Vernon boy is recovering in the hospital after he fell several stories down a building's elevator shaft Sunday.

The mother of Chaz Gant said he did not suffer any broken bones, just a large laceration on his hip, which required stiches. He is being treated at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. He was visiting friends at 111 N. Third Ave. when the accident occurred.

Residents at the building said the elevator is old and constantly breaks down. The building's manager has not returned calls for comment.
