MichiganTeen shot in head dies

A 16-year-old Detroit boy has died after being shot in the head Christmas Day while he and friends played with a gun. The Detroit News and WDIV-TV report that the teen was taken off life support yesterday at an area hospital and that a 19-year-old has been arrested. The 16-year-old was shot about 1:30 p.m. Thursday at a home in the city's historic Virginia Park neighborhood, about three miles north of downtown. Police say the teen and friends ages 19 and 17 were in the basement, and it wasn't immediately clear who pulled the trigger.

PennsylvaniaBaby born on Phila. subway

The transit police officers who helped deliver a Christmas baby on a subway train reunited with the newborn boy and his parents yesterday morning, trading the chaos of the dingy rail car where they first met for the comfort of a hospital room. Sgt. Daniel Caban and Officer Darrell James -- who joined the delivery-in-progress shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday -- came bearing souvenir gifts, including a Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority stuffed train and scarf. Passengers on the eastbound Market-Frankford train said the officers helped coach the woman, identified yesterday as Yanjin Li, through the delivery, removed the umbilical cord from the boy's neck and placed him in her arms. The baby's father wrapped him in a shirt to keep warm.

MissouriBrown memorial rebuilt

Michael Brown supporters spent the wee hours of yesterday morning rebuilding the makeshift memorial dedicated to the unarmed teenager killed on Aug. 9 in Ferguson. Reports that someone had run over Brown's memorial with a car started circulating on social media at about 2 a.m. yesterday, sparking outrage. Brown supporters quickly mobilized on social media, asking anyone who was willing to help to head to Ferguson armed with a trash bag and a broom.
