What happened:

  • It's official: Joe Biden became the 2020 Democratic presidential nominee tonight, more than three decades after his first White House run.
  • Former second lady Jill Biden addressed the country for the first time as the prospective first lady, giving a deeply personal portrait of her husband.
  • Joe Biden drew on party elders — including former Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter.
  • Younger Democrats also got some of the spotlight, including Stacey Abrams and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
