Extreme cold weather: Photos from the Midwest, Northeast

Extreme cold gripped the Midwest Wednesday as the result of a split in the polar vortex.

Chicago was as cold as the Arctic with a low temperature of around minus 23 degrees, and Minneapolis reached minus 27. See winter weather photos from those cities and other locales in the Midwest and Northeast on Wednesday.
