FLORIDA: First space robot 'wakes up'
NASA's humanoid robot has awakened in space. Ground controllers turned Robonaut on Monday for the first time since it was delivered to the International Space Station in February. The test involved sending power to all of Robonaut's systems. The robot was not commanded to move; that will happen next week. "Those electrons feel GOOD! One small step for man, one giant leap for tinman kind," Robonaut posted in a Twitter update. (All right, so a Robonaut team member actually posted the tweets.) Robonaut is being tested as a possible astronaut's helper.
Probation order sought
Casey Anthony should be forced to serve probation for check fraud because it was impossible to enforce the sentence when she was while awaiting trial on charges of murdering her 2-year-old daughter, Florida's attorney general said Monday. A court filing from Attorney General Pam Bondi's office opposes efforts by Anthony's attorneys, who say the woman is back in Florida, to prevent her serving the probation sentence. Anthony was acquitted last month of murdering her daughter, Caylee, in a case unrelated to the check fraud, and she was released from the Orange County Jail. Since then, she has kept a low profile, and her exact whereabouts have been secret. If the order is upheld, Anthony has until noon Friday to report to the probation office.
TEXAS: 2 boys drowned; dad held
A father drowned his two young sons after abducting them and their mother while they were walking to school Monday, Dallas police said. Rasool Mohammed, 32, was arrested in a creek bed hours after police issued an alert saying he was suspected of abducting the boys, ages 3 and 5. Mohammed approached the boys and their 22-year-old mother and forced them into his vehicle, police said. The woman eventually managed to jump from the vehicle and flag down a Dallas County constable. Police said there was a "continuing family violence situation" between Mohammed and the boys' mother.
