OREGON: 2 missing Scouts turn up

Two Boy Scouts who didn't return from a weekend hike are safe after spending two nights in wet, windy weather. A representative of the Clackamas County sheriff's office said Jackson Chandler, 17, and Bradley Nelson, 16, were found Monday afternoon and did not need medical attention. The pair left West Linn in suburban Portland on Saturday afternoon and had been expected to return to their car by nightfall. Their parents called for help when the boys didn't return. On Sunday searchers found the teens' car five miles east of the Table Rock Wilderness area. They were said to be experienced backpackers.

TEXAS: Pastor dies in bizarre attack

A North Texas pastor died after a man drove his car into the church and attacked the pastor with an electric guitar, authorities said. Police Chief Dan Dennis in Forest Hill, a suburb of Fort Worth, said officers arrived at the Greater Sweethome Missionary Baptist Church on Monday to find an assault in progress. The Rev. Danny Kirk Sr. died at the scene. Police used a Taser to detain the suspect, who was not identified. Shortly afterward, he was found unresponsive and, later, was pronounced dead. A motive for the attack was not disclosed.

MISSOURI: Dem senator's mom dies

Betty Anne Ward McCaskill, 84, the mother of Sen. Claire McCaskill, died Monday at her home in St. Louis, McCaskill's campaign said. The Democratic senator had said her mother suffered from "acute cardio-renal failure" and had lost consciousness several times recently. For the past week, McCaskill had canceled most events in her re-election campaign against Republican Todd Akin to spend time with her mother. Betty Anne McCaskill, a political trailblazer herself, was the first woman elected to the Columbia, Mo., City Council in 1971. She aided her daughter's campaigns over the years, often drawing attention to the rising costs of health care for seniors.
