Social media users are up in arms after New Balance declared its support for President-elect Donald Trump.
“The Obama admin turned a deaf ear to us & frankly w/ Pres-Elect Trump we feel things are going to move in the right direction,” the athletic shoe company’s vice president of public affairs, Matt LeBretton, said, according to a tweet by Wall Street Journal reporter Sara Germano on Wednesday.
Many Twitter users expressed their contempt for the company’s political stance by posting images and videos that show their sneakers being disposed of in various ways.
Others are taking a more pragmatic approach to the situation, and believe the shoes should be donated to charity.
New Balance has since tweeted, “We believe in community. We believe in humanity. From the people who make our shoes to the people who wear them, we believe in acting with the utmost integrity and we welcome all walks of life. Since 1906, we have carved our own path in being passionately committed to making things at our five factories in England, even when nobody else did. New Balance and our thousands of employees around the world constantly strive to better our local communities. We always have and always will.”
Many of the comments in response to the tweet express disapproval of the company’s political stance and show people disposing of their shoes
