CLEVELAND - At Monday morning’s kickoff breakfast for the New York State GOP delegation, Newsday found one of Long Island’s leaders: Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano. He said this presidential campaign shows that “America is searching for a leader.” Mangano is an alternate to the convention from the 3rd Congressional District.

QUESTION: Who are you most excited to hear speak, beside Trump, at the convention and why?

ANSWER: We have a number of good speakers, but I’m excited to hear Giuliani tonight.

QUESTION: Because he’s the local guy?

ANSWER: Yeah. He was a great mayor, and a good friend, and I’m looking forward to hearing Giuliani address the Republican National Convention tonight.

QUESTION: Why is Trump the best candidate to run this country?

ANSWER: Well, I think he put forth a direction of strengthening our national security, and strengthening our local economy, and those are powerful messages that I believe citizens are going to receive well, and he’s going to earn their support. … So this convention gives Donald Trump an opportunity to unify the party, and advance his platform so that a broader range of people can understand what he stands for.

QUESTION: What do you think the 2016 campaign says about America?

ANSWER: I think the 2016 campaign says that America is searching for a leader. That the people of our country are concerned about their security and their economic future, and they’re searching for a candidate that’s best going to serve their wants, and that’s what you’re going to see in this campaign this year.
