Trump tweets he’s happy with legal team; criticizes media

President Donald Trump insisted he was “VERY happy” with the legal team defending him against an investigation into whether his campaign colluded with Russia during the 2016 election, as he pushed back against a media report that he interviewed a new attorney to be part of his team.

In a series of Sunday morning tweets, Trump also said his lawyers “have shown conclusively that there was no Collusion with Russia . . . just excuse for losing” by Democrats.

Trump called out The New York Times and its reporter Maggie Haberman, labeling her “a Hillary flunky.”

“The Failing New York Times purposely wrote a false story stating that I am unhappy with my legal team on the Russia case and am going to add another lawyer to help out. Wrong. I am VERY happy with my lawyers, John Dowd, Ty Cobb and Jay Sekulow. They are doing a great job,” Trump tweeted.

The New York Times story published Saturday reported Trump was in discussions with Emmet T. Flood, a veteran Washington attorney who represented President Bill Clinton during the impeachment process.

The story did not say he was unhappy with his legal team, but said that in private conversations Trump “has seesawed between expressing confidence in Mr. Cobb’s claim that the inquiry will wrap up in relatively short order and that he will be exonerated, and sounding frustrated with his team’s legal strategy.”

Haberman retweeted Trump’s tweet with the comment “Lol,” which stands for “laugh out loud.” She also noted in another tweet that other media outlets had confirmed the report.

In other tweets Sunday, Trump said the media was ignoring Republican congressional election victories. He also complained that Democrats were blocking the confirmation of State Department personnel, ambassadors and other government nominees.
