ST. LOUIS - (AP) — Washington University is laying off employees and eliminating jobs to make up for shortfalls in its $1.8 billion budget.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Tuesday that the university will lay off 25 employees and eliminate 25 more unfilled jobs.
Chancellor Mark Wrighton announced the news to staff Monday. He says the cuts would save the university $10 million a year.
Other means to balance the budget include an enrollment increase, a 4 percent rise in the $38,000-a-year tuition and some projected savings.
Wrighton says those measures and the staffing cuts would save an expected $30 million.
