Valerie Harper, known for playing Bronx gal Rhoda Morgenstern on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," has brain cancer and just months to live.

The 73-year-old actress was diagnosed with a terminal brain cancer, leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, in January, People magazine reported Wednesday. "I don't think of dying," the Emmy Award-winner told People. "I think of being here now."

Leptomeningeal carcinomatosis is a rare condition that occurs when cancer cells spread into the brain's fluid-filled membrane, making it more difficult to treat than a solid brain tumor.

Harper was also diagnosed with lung cancer four years ago and recovered after surgery. She told The New Yorker this year that the first cancer diagnosis inspired her to write a book and raise awareness about early detection. Harper was promoting her memoir, "I, Rhoda," when she fell ill again in January.

Though doctors gave Harper a minimum three months to live, she is staying positive. "I've had a good run," she told People. "What more could I ask for?"
