Beef with Taco Bell: Lawsuit over chain's meat mixture



Beef — is it really what’s for dinner?

The “beef” used by fast-food chain Taco Bell in its tacos and burritos actually is composed mostly of non-meat substances, according to a lawsuit filed last week.

Sixty-five percent of the beef is made up of substances such as isolated oat product, soy lecithin, autolyzed yeast extract and modified corn starch, said the suit filed on behalf of California resident Amanda Obney by a law firm that claimed to have had the beef tested.

Obney reportedly is not seeking money — she just wants Taco Bell to publicly reveal its ingredients.

Taco Bell said yesterday that it plans to take legal action against the “false” claims. The chain, which has more than 5,600 locations in the U.S., said it uses 100 percent U.S. Department of Agriculture-inspected beef.
