Kilmer to play Twain in one-man show
No, this isn't a joke: Val Kilmer will apparently play Mark Twain in a one-man show he wrote titled "Citizen Twain." Perhaps this one will stand alongside Kilmer's strange performance as Moses in the much-derided musical version of "The Ten Commandments."
Deluge system snafu floods 'Evita' pit
The new Broadway revival of the Andrew Lloyd Webber classic "Evita," which began previews on Monday at the Marquis Theatre, was forced to cancel its Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon performances after the theater's deluge system, which stores water above the stage in case of an emergency, accidentally went off and flooded the orchestra pit. The backstage crew worked through the night to clean up the mess.
Postponed 'Rebecca' aiming for fall debut
"Rebecca" will rise again, or so claims its producer. The musical, which was supposed to open on Broadway this spring, was postponed a few weeks ago for financial reasons. Producer Ben Sprecher wrote on his Facebook page this week that the money is now in place and the show will open at the Broadhurst Theatre in the fall.
Martin to provide tunes for Bard
Steve Martin will provide original bluegrass music for the romantic comedy "As You Like It," the first of this summer's Shakespeare in the Park productions. Daniel Sullivan's production will be set in the American South around 1840.
